Missouri Land Snails Database

Please note that this database is a work in progress. Currently, it includes data for about 3,600 lots from Ron Oesch's collection, housed at University of Colorado, Boulder (RDOC), 1,400 lots from Larry Watrous' collection (LEWC), and about 2000 lots from the Field Museum of Natural History collections (FMNH).

The Field Museum data is complete for the Hubricht collection, which is well represented for Missouri - L. Hubricht lived and worked for many years in the St. Louis area. Other Field Museum data is complete for some families; see the Field Museum web site for the current status of their mollusks database. Also note that Field Museum data is copyrighted. Requirements and restrictions for the use of Field Museum data are described on their site.

Identifications for all Missouri collections are currently being reviewed and the data will be modified as changes become available. We are also in the process of cleansing the data; some records with good specific locality information are missing a county coding and are hence excluded; some taxonomic names have to be adjusted to match the current classification and other records have been excluded because of misspellings or other clerical errors. These problems will be corrected as our work on Missouri land snails progresses.

This site currently supports a species list by county (click on a county within the map below), statewide county map by species (select a species from the list below), localities for a species within a county, statewide localities for a species, species list for a particular locality, and a list of all collection localities for a particular county. Select one of the options below and click on asterisk (*) links and other embedded links to view all of the reporting options.
